Reading today’s tape…

Unusual options activity updated every trading day

Spot unusual options activity while it’s still building.

Xeros reads every US options chain after the close and ranks the contracts whose open interest keeps climbing, session after session — the positions traders are adding to, not one-off prints.

§01The signal

Big trades make noise. Open interest makes the move.

What flow alerts show

A single print

A 5,000-contract sweep hits the tape and lights up every flow feed. But it might be closing an old position, hedging a book, or one leg of a spread — and by tomorrow it can be gone.

What Xeros ranks

An open-interest streak

Open interest only rises when new contracts are opened and held overnight. When it climbs on one strike session after session, someone is building a position — and is still adding to it.

§03The session

Built around the trading day.

  1. The close

The session ends. Volume is final; open interest settles overnight.

  2. Stock volume

Underlying volume and its 10-day and 1-year averages land, powering the unusual-volume filter.

  3. First read

Every options chain is pulled — strikes, expiries, volume — for every optionable stock and ETF.

  4. Settled open interest

Chains are read again before the open, after open interest updates, and every streak is re-ranked.

  5. The open

Today’s builds are waiting for you before the opening bell.

§04FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is unusual options activity?

Unusual options activity is trading in a contract that is far outside its normal pattern — much more volume, or much more open interest, than that strike usually sees. It often marks a trader positioning ahead of an expected move, a hedge, or an event like earnings.

What is open interest, and why does it matter?

Open interest is the number of option contracts that are open and not yet closed. Unlike volume, it only rises when new positions are opened and held overnight. When open interest on one strike climbs session after session, someone is building a position — which is the signal Xeros is built around.

How is Xeros different from options flow trackers?

Flow trackers alert on individual large trades as they print, but a single print can be closing an old position, a hedge, or one leg of a spread. Xeros tracks open interest instead, and ranks the contracts where it keeps rising day after day — positions that were opened and are still being added to.

How often is the data updated?

Every trading day. Options chains are read after the close and again before the next open, once open interest has updated overnight, so the screener always reflects the latest completed session.

Which stocks and ETFs does Xeros cover?

Every optionable US stock and ETF — more than 5,300 symbols, and over 1.7 million contracts read each session.
